Our 10 Commitments to Sustainability
We are committed to promoting Sustainability at Consensus through our programme of ‘Sustainability, one step at a time’. Spearheaded by our Services, Teams, and Senior Leadership Team, every year we review and align our commitments to the future to ensure we’re consistently developing our approach, reducing our environmental impact, and making meaningful progress towards a greener, more sustainable organisation.
Our approach focuses on three key areas: Environmental, Social Impact, and Governance (ESG), ensuring that sustainability is embedded across everything we do.
1. We will achieve carbon neutrality in 2025.
2. We will work towards climate neutrality by 2050.
3. We will continue our commitment to recycling and will: - Continue to send zero electronic waste to landfill. - Reduce our general waste to landfill to less than 0.5% by 2027.
4. We will give back 4000 hours of team time per year to our local communities through volunteering projects.
5. We will work with the people we support to improve and measure their quality of life.
6. We will continue to be an accredited ‘Great Place to Work™’ and a ‘UK Best Workplace™’ in the categories of Women, Wellbeing, Development and Healthcare.
7. Every service and support team will have an action plan that addresses how they will achieve sustainability… one step at a time.
8. We will improve our cyber security and become ‘Cyber-Essentials Plus™’ accredited in 2025.
9. We will work smarter to reduce paper usage throughout our organisation by adopting digital technology.
10. We will invest in training of colleagues to enhance our sustainability plans.
One Bug Hotel at a time
“I’m committing to being more environmentally friendly, starting with the introduction of some bug hotels & wildlife havens to my garden! A perfect way to enjoy the natural local wildlife. Alongside this, I’ll be popping on my trainers and swapping the car for a walk, whilst ensuring I have my refillable cup in hand.”

“I commit to opening up my passenger seats to my colleagues, so we can care share on our way to work! Alongside my reusable coffee cups, I’ll be trying to start off every morning with the environment in mind. I’m also promising to plants in our garden to not entice people into enjoying nature, but to welcome the butterflies & bees.”

Starting with carrots, peppers, & beetroot, I want to help create a more financially sustainable future for our service, ensuring we have more money to spend on creating fun activities & memories for everyone at our service.”
