Say Hello to Wendy - Head of Learning & Development

Say Hello to Wendy Pipes, our Head of Learning & Organisation Development. Wendy leads training, development and learning initiatives to make sure all of our colleagues have all the knowledge and skills not only do to do their role, but to thrive in it. Her and the team pride themselves on making sure support is there from Day 1, with a brand new induction for all colleagues and access to the Consensus Academy so they can start their professional development knowing that the organisation is ready to invest in them and their careers.

Wendy has been working in social care for over 25 years, with a wealth of experience from managing care services, managing apprenticeships and leading Learning and Development as part of HR and people teams. Even though Wendy doesn’t work on the ‘ground floor’ any more, her time spent working directly with people living in social care services motivates her to continue innovating and creating new programmes that can make a real difference to their lives. Outside of work when she isn’t studying, Wendy loves diving – only in nice weather though, and is a qualified coach and mentor.

An Interesting Fact:
“I met Olympian Kriss Akabusi when I was 18 when I won an award for in the ‘modern apprenticeship’ category. Learning is really important and that is something I carry with me professionally and personally.”

Favourite Quote:
“’Learn continually – there’s always one more thing to learn!’ – Steve Jobs”

A Personal Goal:
“To graduate from my Forensic Psychology degree this year – I’m excited for the achievement, but I won’t miss waking up at 5am to study and exercise before work. I’ll have lots of spare time when I’ve finished, so maybe I’ll learn something new!”

But what’s her favourite thing about working at Consensus?

“That’s easy – the people! Consensus is full of great people, from the people we support who inspire me every day with their amazing stories, to our colleagues who truly care about making a difference and a positive impact in peoples lives, and the Senior Leadership Team who are really invested in getting it right for everyone here.”

And what about her most memorable moment so far?

“Even though I’ve been here 12 months now I still feel that new-job excitement, and in that time my favourite moment was the launch of the new Consensus Academy, giving me and my team an opportunity to shape the future of learning for our colleagues and people we support, especially now that we have people joining us as Experts by Experience and will be working alongside us to deliver the Oliver McGowan Training.”
