Southwold House: Positive risk taking & creativity

We’re thrilled to share that after their recent CQC Inspection, Southwold House has been rated as ‘Good’ – where positive risk taking and a strong learning culture enables the people they support to live their best lives. Through a culture of continuous learning and improvement, and lots of creativity, the team work collaboratively to deliver exceptional support and fantastic outcomes.

Well done to Lisa, Service Manager at Southwold House, and her team for their commitment to making every moment matter. While celebrating the positive news, Lisa shared;

“This is an amazing outcome which highlights all the hard work, dedication and effort from all the staff team to make Southwold a great place not only to work but also a great place to live for the individuals we support. The people we support are at the heart of everything we do, and this has been reflected in the report, by highlighting the importance of inclusivity, person-centred care and positive risk management to enable our individuals to live their best life, achieve their goals and aspirations.”

Comments from the relatives included:

  • “It is a good home, staff listen to me, and we have a really good relationship.”
  • “they treat me and my loved one well.”
  • “They (loved one) always seems happy when we collect them or when we are dropping them back. They want to go back, they would let us know if they didn’t, so they must be meeting their needs.”
  • “The staff and manager are caring.”

Highlighting some of our stand-out comments, have a read of the wonderful report below;

Safe

  • Staff concentrated on improving people’s lives while protecting their right to live in safety.
  • Staff had received training in the Mental Capacity Act and supported people in making informed decisions.
  • The manager worked collaboratively with people, relatives, advocates and health professionals when people’s support needs changed to review all options and identified the best outcomes for people.
  • We saw people had individual activities planned in the community such as swimming, bike riding and attending local clubs supported by staff. Where a person wanted to go away on holiday, staff had helped them facilitate this safely.

Well-Led

  • The provider and manager was working with staff to develop a culture that enabled people to focus on enjoying their lives.
  • The manager had provided additional training and role modelling to staff on ways they can enable people to enjoy the activities they chose to do. This included positive risk taking to enable support that was person centred to give people more autonomy and empowerment over their daily lives.
  • Staff told us they had been enabled to develop their skills through further training and that management were approachable. One member of staff said, “We are always encouraged to progress with additional training like NVQ.”
  • They encouraged creative ways of delivering equality of experience, outcome and quality of life for people. Staff were encouraged to share their feedback during meetings and supervision to help with the development of the service

Whilst the inspector didn’t review ‘Effective’, ‘Caring’, and ‘Responsive’ during the visit, we’re happy that Southwold House has been rated ‘Good’, ensuring our colleagues & the people we support have a great place to live, and a great place to work. Area Director, Michelle, shared;

“After the CQC inspection at Southwold House, the whole team was delighted with the results and was thanked for all their help and support, as always. The Manager and Deputy Manager have worked tirelessly to transform the service into a place where people want to live; their dedication has shone through and has benefited the People We Support. Improving independence, giving, and supporting meaningful activities, and for them to fulfil their own goals and to live their best lives.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves – well done to Team Southwold House for your kindness & commitment to making every moment matter for the people you support!
