Who We Are
Our Commitment
For Kieran, there’s nothing he loves more than helping others. Living at Ty Hendy, one of our services in Wales, he’s embracing every opportunity that comes his way – not letting his Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) stand in the way of living a full, happy, and meaningful life.
One of Kieran’s many volunteering roles is at his local hospital, where he takes the shop trolley around the wards to patients who can’t get to the shop themselves. Twice a week, Kieran sets out on his rounds with a big smile, offering snacks, drinks and friendly conversation. Using an electronic tablet, he helps patients choose and purchase items, and if someone asks for something special like a magazine, Kieran happily makes a trip back to the shop to get it.
For the patients, his visits are a highlight of the day. For Kieran, it’s a chance to give back to his community and share his positivity with others.
Living with PWS can make food a sensitive area to manage, but with the support of his dedicated team at Ty Hendy, Kieran has built a healthy and balanced approach. He’s supported to make good food choices, manage portion sizes safely, and enjoy a full and varied diet in moderation – never feeling restricted, but always empowered. This proactive, person-centred approach allows Kieran to stay safe and confident, even when surrounded by snacks during his hospital shifts.
And volunteering at the hospital is just one part of Kieran’s busy and fulfilling life. He also helps out at Barnardo’s charity shop, volunteers at a local community farm, and attends several social clubs. When he’s not volunteering, he enjoys meals out with his fiancée, staying active at Ty Hendy’s Fit Club twice a week, and cheering on Swansea City Football Club.
Kieran’s dad shared, “Ty Hendy is a great placement for Kieran – it’s the best placement he’s ever been at.”
Kieran’s story is a wonderful example of how, with the right support, people living with PWS can thrive, achieve their goals, and make a real difference to others. His determination, kindness and enthusiasm are an inspiration to everyone around him.
We’re so proud of everything Kieran continues to achieve – and we can’t wait to see what he does next!
