Support Worker Donna has reached a magnificent milestone, celebrating 25 years with the company. Since starting her journey back in 1997, she has become a beloved and invaluable member of the team, and this Long Service Award is testament to her dedication, passion, and contribution at Consensus.
We spoke to Donna to find out a little more about the last 25 years.
What do you love about your job to still be here and enjoying it 25 years later?
It’s the people. I’ve met so many great people, and everybody is so different – there’s always something new to learn. Most days this doesn’t even feel like a job – especially when it’s taking wonderful people out for trips to the theme park or seaside and just having a great time together. How many people get to call that work?
What’s the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your career so far?
Working through the COVID pandemic – especially during lockdowns. I spent a lot of time at work, and it was difficult. But the team pulled together and made sure that what was a frightening situation became a safe and happy one for everyone.
What’s your favourite memory over the last 25 years?
Even though it was a difficult time for a lot of people, I’d say it was the lockdown. It was amazing seeing how everyone came together to make the most of it. The people we supported were scared and stuck indoors, but we worked to turn a bad situation into a positive one – and were able to come up with new and creative ways of raising everyone’s spirits and we really had some great fun together.
What are you most proud of during your time here?
There’s nothing that makes me prouder than knowing I get to be a part of helping the people we support achieve their hopes and dreams.
What advice would you give to someone who is starting out in their career as a Support Worker?
Enjoy it. This will be a fun and rewarding job. Just keep an open mind and every day you’ll learn something new.
“Donna is a fantastic member of the team,” added Deputy Manager Stacey. “She is always up for helping and has a genuine enthusiasm for getting the people we support involved. We are so lucky to have her here at Parvale House.”
Thank you to Donna for your hard work, dedication and for sharing your highlights with us all.
