Sophie's day with Diane

As well as striving to provide opportunity to those we support, we also encourage our colleagues to embrace new experiences and achieve their goals, too. For HR and Wellbeing Coordinator Sophie, that meant volunteering her time within one of supported living services where she enjoyed spending the day getting creative with Diane.

Sophie was greeted with a very warm welcome, instantly being made to feel part of the team. She was introduced to Diane, who lives in our supported living service, who shared their exciting plans for their day ahead – a trip to a pottery painting café.

Alongside Support Worker Carol, Sophie and Diane spent the morning creating their own works of art and they were able to enjoy lunch together – complete with delicious banana milkshakes and a yummy brownie. They absolutely loved the pottery painting, and Diane cannot wait to do it again.

Sophie said, “Diane is remarkably independent, and so much fun to be around – I loved spending time with her! It was great to be able to offer my support whilst she made her own decisions.”

Working at Consensus for 4 years, Sophie is always on hand to provide support and guidance for colleagues across all our services in her role as HR and Wellbeing Coordinator – and now has a valuable insight into the work those colleagues are doing, and the people they’re working to support. She added, “I’d encourage anyone who works in a similar job to mine to spend a day making memories with the people we support. It’s an opportunity to really appreciate why the role you’re doing is so important, and how amazing the people you’re doing it for really are.”

“It was a pleasure to work with Sophie. She was lovely, friendly and made Diane feel really relaxed. She interacted well throughout the day, and I would definitely invite her to come and volunteer her time again” Carol said. “She’s also a very good painter – she even had to help me paint my mug!”

Nice work, Sophie!
