Sometimes, the biggest journeys begin with a single ride – and for one person we support in our Supported Living Services, that first ride has led to an incredible achievement.
After discovering through the Consensus Quality of Life Tool, curated to support people to thrive and share their goals, A shared a personal goal: to get back on his bike, rebuild his confidence, and eventually cycle all the way around the local lake. With the support of his team and a lot of encouragement from his fantastic support workers, Emmanuel and Steve, A is overjoyed to share that dream is now a reality.
Starting off with short, gentle sessions in the car park, the team first started by working with A to develop his confidence and balance on his bike. Then came laps around the village, always with his team right beside him, sometimes even bringing in their own bikes to ride alongside him. Step by step, his confidence grew – and now, he’s completed his biggest milestone yet: cycling all the way around Langold Lake!
This incredible achievement is a direct result of the team’s commitment to personalised, outcomes-focused support, guided by the Quality of Life Tool. Used across all Consensus services, the tool helps individuals reflect on how they feel about different areas of their lives, identify where they’d like to grow, and set meaningful goals to work towards. By focusing on what matters most to each person, teams can provide tailored, empowering support that builds confidence, celebrates success, and turns aspirations into reality – just like this one.
Steve, who has supported him throughout, shared:
“The best thing about my job is supporting the individuals to achieve their dreams, such as biking.”
The celebration didn’t stop at the finish line. His mum shared how proud and grateful she is, professionals praised his determination, and he himself thanked the team for standing by him every step of the way.
Thanks to everyone’s encouragement, this is only the beginning. With regular progress reviews and an annual celebration of achievements in place, we can’t wait to see what the next adventure holds.
