Congratulations! You’ve got the job offer. You’re excited to get started.
But there’s lots of prep to be done behind the scenes by someone like Sammy-Jo, working hard to get everything in place and ready for you to get started.
As an Onboarding Administrator at Consensus, Sammy-Jo is one of the first people you’ll meet or speak to after receiving your offer. Responsible for onboarding all our new colleagues, she’s always here to go that extra mile for you as you transition into your new role with us. This commitment to her role and to her colleagues, combined with her happy, helpful, and humorous nature, saw Sammy-Jo be awarded with the ‘Best Support Act’ award at our annual conference this year.
And in the spirit of going the extra mile. Sammy-Jo has shared her top tips for any new starters looking to join Consensus, or going through the onboarding process – making sure everyone who joins Team Consensus is off to a flying start.
Tip 1: Contact Details
This one might sound silly, but make sure your details are correct. If we’ve got a slightly wrong name, an old address, a mistyped phone number we can’t do the pre-employment checks we need to do and will have the start the whole process again, delaying or even stopping your start date.
Tip 2: Job History
Another important thing to remember when doing your paperwork is trying to fill in your job history as well as you can – it’s okay if there’s gaps, or if there’s a job you don’t think is relevant. Having the full history means we can get you started quickly and without having to come back and confirm things.
Tip 3: Call your Referees
Let them know we’re going to be reaching out. We need to get your references before you can get into a service, so talk to them first and make sure they’re ready and prepared.
Tip 4: Keep in Touch
We’re always here so ask us questions, ask about training, ask about if your checks have come back right – you’re a part of the team now so feel free to talk to us.
Tip 5: Start Learning
Once you’ve started, before you get to work you’ll get a three day induction, and there will be plenty of online learning available to you so make the most of it and learn everything you can to get a head start.
Tip 6: Do your Research
Talk to people, find out about the people you’ll be supporting and research conditions they have, find out who Consensus are and what we stand for so that you can come into your new role confident that you know our values and our goals.
Tip 7: Just Ask
Make the most of people around you – your new colleagues want you to succeed. So if you need help, whether it’s a reasonable adjustment, or just some advice, talk to us or the people at your service and we’ll always help you.
Tip 8: Making Moments Matter
The most important thing to remember is why we’re here: to make every moment matter. We’re all here to make sure the people we support have the best lives they can, and as long as you keep that in mind, it doesn’t matter what your background is you will succeed.
