Who We Are
Our Commitment
At Consensus, supporting people to live their best lives often means helping them achieve the things that matter most to them. For Matthew, that was scattering his grandad’s ashes in Blackpool – something he had wanted to do for a long time but found hard to plan because of his ADHD.
Matthew often finds it hard to commit to trips planned too far in advance, as the extended time can cause his attention to shift to other things. The team at Kingarth knew how important this was, so they thought creatively. Instead of planning weeks ahead, they organised the trip and told him the day before.
When his support worker Jade invited him, Matthew was buzzing! He collected his grandad’s ashes from his mum straight away, got a good night’s sleep, and was ready for the big day. On Friday, Jade and Matthew took the train to Blackpool, enjoyed the Pleasure Beach, and then made his wish come true by scattering his grandad’s ashes. His mum called several times to say thank you, sharing how much this meant to her and Matthew.
This special moment shows what can happen when support is truly person-centred. Jade has built such a strong, trusting relationship with Matthew, and her creativity and commitment helped make the day possible.
We’re so proud of Matthew for achieving something so important, and proud of the Kingarth team for making it happen. It’s moments like this that show what Quality of Life really means at Consensus.
