Maria's day out to Aldeburgh House

Taking a trip to the sunny sites of West Mersea, me and Referrals Manager Susan had a lovely time spending time at Aldeburgh House – spending time with the people we support, getting stuck in with all the fun and daily activities.

Putting names to smiling faces we were met by Jerry, Oli, Robert, Katherine, Wendy, Sharon, and Barry – welcomed with big open arms, Robert and Sharon made sure to give us some special hello hugs. From the moment we stepped inside it was activities galore, with a big thank you to Katherine for letting me join in on some very impressive puzzles (although sitting on the floor for any length of time is not easy these days at my age!).

We then had the chance to support Oli for a walk to the sea front, watching the kite suffers perform aerial tricks despite the cold, grey and murky waters. Taking the prime viewing spot inside the Seaview Cafe, we even indulged in some hot drinks and toasties – yum! Followed by a stroll along the sea front taking in the beautiful colourful beach huts, Susan and I had a lovely time getting to know Oli.

We then ended the day with a drive around Mersey & Rowhedge with Katherine and Robert. The first stop being the local farm shop where we parked alongside a field for two horses to come over and say hello. Sticking their noses into the car window, the horses were very happy to say hello (I think their ulterior motive was finding something nice to eat!). Following the farm shop was a drive around the local area, spotting police cars, fire engines, horse boxes, and even some rather large stately homes – this was very much enjoyed by both Katherine and Robert who seemed very chilled just watching the world go by before it was time to return for a late afternoon drink and snack.

I’d like to say a big thank you to Zoe, Ben, Jade and the team for supporting Susan and I to visit Aldeburgh House and explore the local area. We very much enjoyed our time meeting the people we support, and have already signed ourselves up for another visit in the summer to watch Katherine take up horse riding, and join Ben (who is an instructor for all things water based) on a trip to the beach for some potential kayaking and canoeing. Who knows, maybe Susan and I will take to the high seas in a kayak!
