Happy 1 year to The Beehive

It’s been a whole year since the Beehive opened it’s doors for the first time – welcoming people into their forever homes, supporting them to flourish, and achieve their dreams & aspirations. And what better way to mark the occasion than with a party to celebrate.

Since opening it’s doors in November 2023, The Beehive has seen some beautiful memories made and so many incredible moments and milestones being achieved. From opening their doors with 6 colleagues to now growing to 27, welcoming 4 people in their forever homes, they decided to bring together birthday and culture celebrations and got busy planning!

With music, dances, & cuisines from all different cultures like Kenya, Africa, India, Britain, and Jamaica, everyone enjoyed not only partying and dancing, but learning about one another cultures to create an inclusive environment where respect for one another’s believes and ways of working were at the forefront.

Reflecting on how much they’d grown within the past year, some of their favourite memories included…

  • Julian moving into his forever home – often liking his own space, Julian stayed at the party for over an hour dancing away to the tunes, which was a huge testament to the team on their dedication to supporting Julian in new environments (with a few tears shed on seeing how far Julian had come!), and a big well done to Julian for how far he’s come in such a short space of time.
  • The team supporting Steven to do his own cooking, building up trust between on another to ensure Steven is flourishing in his new life. Never a fan of birthday parties, Steven even had his first birthday party which was a great success!
  • Piers getting stuck in with decorating The Beehive, ready for all the celebrations.
  • “The Beehive has turned into a home away from home.” – Sheyi
  • “Working at The Beehive has changed my life, coming over from a different country the people are supported here to be themselves.” – Stephen

Sharing her gratitude for her team, Service Manager Emma shared “I’m so grateful for every single person at The Beehive, as well as the wider support of people from across Consensus. The wider team effort with the PBS team has made it what it is today – supporting us with training and equipping us to be a confident and competent team. Holding monthly team meetings has made sure we hold that communication and get everyone involved in shaping the future here at The Beehive.”

A big thank you to Elfreda for all her scrumptious cooking, Sandra & Adekola for organising the finances & decorations, and well done to everyone at The Beehive for the progress and growth achieved in the last year.
