Certification Nation - why we're a Great Place to Work®

At Consensus, our colleagues make us a really Great Place to Work®. Spearheading ideas, initiatives, and shaping who we are as a company, we value input from all of our colleagues who shape Consensus into an environment where people can shine, flourish, and belong.

And as part of being a Great Place to Work® we’re celebrating Certification Nation Day – a day to honour and acknowledge companies working to create great places to work for all. Sharing a glimpse at some of the great initiatives happening across Consensus, here are just a few of the things happening…

Disability Confident Employer

We strive to create a workplace that isn’t just equal, but equitable too – ensuring everyone has an opportunity to shine. And with the help of one of our wonderful colleagues, Bethany Casey, we are officially a Disability Confident Employer. Employing people with disabilities in all areas of business, we make sure there’s support in place from interviewing, to the forthcoming years working at Consensus. Whether that’s flexibility, a different way of communicating, specialist software or just giving more time to complete a task – we want to ensure every colleague feels valued and heard.

Mental Health First Aiders

Across Consensus, we also have our wonderful Mental Health First Aiders – colleagues trained to support others in giving people a safe and confidential space to talk, providing support and advice to those who may be struggling with their Mental Health. Ran by Mental Health England, we now have 41 amazing MHFAiders providing support throughout our homes and Central Support office – with more on the way!

Menopause Wellbeing

With so many wellbeing initiatives happening across Consensus, Menopause Wellbeing has been a big topic of conversation in recent months for our colleagues. With a workforce that is 72% female, ensuring every colleague is valued is so important to us. And through educational days, 1:1 sessions, and group coffee trips, we’ve been supporting our colleagues to feel valued, heard, and have a safe space to express their thoughts on how we as an employer can always being providing exceptional support.

Career Growth Opportunities

We recognise that a career in social care can take many different forms, which is why we provide a range of training and development opportunities to all our colleagues that are tailored to their roles. Including access to accredited qualifications and bespoke training programs – we’re empowering all our colleagues to unlock their full potential and achieve their aspirations.

LGBTQ+ Network

Alongside our other great initiatives, we want to make sure that everyone has the right support, so our LGBTQ+ colleagues all have a chance to have their voices heard at our Pride Network that is run entirely by LGBTQ+ colleagues. They’ve already made some amazing changes and brought some great ideas to life about how we can make Consensus a more inclusive, understanding workplace for everyone.

And so much more! Ideas are always abundant throughout Consensus, and we can’t wait to continue being a Great Place to Work®.

We're proud to have been recognised by our colleagues as a Great Place to Work®, as well as achieving the accolade of being one of the UK's Best Workplaces for Women in 2023. We work hard to create a culture that ensures our team members feel appreciated and are given the opportunities they deserve to truly flourish. In doing so, we're able to create an environment where the people we support receive the highest quality of care from our dedicated colleagues.
